Guinea Pig Hidey FAQs
Do guinea pigs need a hidey house?
While a hidey house isn’t an absolute must for guinea pigs, it is essential that they have a space in their cage where they feel safe and secure and hidey houses do exactly that (plus, they’re super cute)!
How many hideys should my guinea pig have?
Since hideys are likely where your piggies will want to sleep, it’s best to have one per guinea pig in the cage. It’s also a smart idea to keep a few extras on hand so you can easily swap them out during cleaning.
How do I clean a guinea pig hidey?
Our fleece guinea pig hideys are super easy to clean, just toss them in the wash on a low setting! Make sure to remove the pee pad as these can be washed separately. If you’d prefer to keep your piggy laundry separate from the rest, try our Eat, Wheek, Poop, Repeat washing bag. Please note: we don’t recommend tumble drying the hidey homes.
Do hidey houses have a base?
All of our hidey houses come with a pee pad base to help keep things dry and cozy for your piggy pals. The pee pads are removable and can be washed separately to keep everything fresh!
Where should I place the hidey in the cage?
Hidey homes are meant to help your piggies feel safe and secure, so the best spot is in a quiet corner of the cage away from loud noises or anything too stimulating. A calm space helps them relax and feel at home.
Why does a guinea pig hide?
Hiding is a natural instinct that helps guinea pigs stay safe. In the wild, guinea pigs are vulnerable to predators, so hiding is an important survival skill that helps them stay out of sight. Guinea pigs also like to hide away when they're looking for warmth, comfort, or just want some quiet time alone. If your guinea pig is consistently hiding and not engaging with their other toys or cage mates, it may indicate a health problem, so it is always best to speak to a vet if you're concerned.
